Metrology FAQ
1. Buying goods that is already Prepackage on the shelves (sugar, flour, rice, etc.)
-The label is clearly visible with information on the produce
-Net weight/Gross weight is clearly marked
-Packaging is not damage
-Pay only for the content, not the packaging
2. When buying goods by weight over the counter. (Scale)
– The trader must place the scales so you can see the weight.
– Price per kilogram, total price and the goods being weighed.
– Ensure the shop scales display zero weight before your goods are weighed. If they don’t – tell the trader
– Make sure that the scale is clear of other items and only the goods you are purchasing are being weighed when the price is being calculated.
– Check the price per kilogram on the scales matches the advertised price.
– Check the total price on the scales is the price you are charged at the checkout.
3. Filling fuel at service station
– See that all display is visible with no missing segment on the display.
– The filling nozzle is placed in the nozzle hoister.
– Correct nozzle is picked for filling upon your request.
– Correct amount of dollar or liter value is displayed if filling on prepay mode.
– The display starts from zero when filling the vehicle.
– Check the total price on the pump is the price you are charged by the attendant or cashier.
– Where possible do your own filling.
4. Weighing at a weighbridge for checking your loading or legal enforcement by local authorities.
– See that the weighing platform is empty and indicating device is reading Zero.
– Check all corners are not touching anywhere and has a stable movement.
– If weighing at a public weighbridge, ensure that the weighbridge is registered and person weighing has a public Weighmans license
– There are no debris on the platform.
– A mass ticket to be issued on completion of weighing
