New Town Development Planned Townships and Growth Centres.

The proposal is to develop town centres in respective provinces of areas identified growth centres within the rural areas as trading centres and urban development area that is prepared for local governments.

Objectives

(i) Prepare projected growth centres in anticipation of urban growth and urban development is rural areas, such that it grows in a coordinated and well-planned manner and serviced with the basic urban infrastructure to support the centre as it grows
(ii) Create land for investment and productivity to curb rural-urban migration and generate opportunities to support growth in non-urban centres

Current Projects

1. Nabouwalu, Bua – Developments have been focussed around the Town Centre with several Government Ministries currenly having established their offices in nearby areas. The project aims to have commercial, industrial and civic development
2. Korovou, Tailevu Korovou – this proposed town centre is near the current trading area along the Kings highway. This area will therefore be able to expand on the number services/businesses that is lacking in the Korovou/Tailevu area as there is no available space available at the moment in the trading center.
3. Keiyasi, Nadroga – similar to Nabouwalu, has an existing and established Government Station serving the area. However lacking commercial and industrial services that is need for the people in the Keiyasi/Dubalevu and Generally the majority of the population along Valley Rd. this town centre will negate the need to travel to Sigatoka.
4. Seaqaqa, Macuata – the current setup and existing trading area has established businesses servicing the community. However, the Ministry is looking at upgrading the proposed Town Centre and to accommodate extra lots in the process for potential investors
